Development

The cover will be printed with two spot colours on a cloth binding (you may specify the colours). The cover will be 165mm wide X 231mm high. The spine will be 30mm wide X 231mm high.
The final artwork should be presented as a 300 dpi, grayscale image. N.B. You may use fake 'body copy' to simulate the words on your double-page spread. These two illustrations should be presented in your portfolio as a double-page spread.

Silhouette of "the man in black" - Greenish yellow, feels toxic or out of place - Paint markings covered in dirt.

Full-page, full bleed image: CMYK - 160mm wide X 226mm high of 300 dpi. Note: this dimension includes a 3mm bleed around all four sides.
Picture
Greyscale - focus on eye of the figure. Harsh lighting.
Picture
Picture
Consider composition of the bleed - more subtly to the lighting, adjusted proportions (e.g shoulders and arm etc.)
Picture
Picture
Picture

A black and white chapter heading that is aligned to the body of the justified text. 105mm wide X 50mm high. Note: there is no requirement that it has to have a crisp, rectangular edge so you may treat it as a vignette.
Picture
Gothic, texture, links to cover more closely, bird looks les friendly - more uncomfortable. Varied lines and marks.

Mockups: page layout, testing vignette vs. solid image - page colours (greyscale) - where illustration is centred (is light distracting etc.)

POST THURSDAY CRIT

Picture

-Add elements of crow and cover texture and style to main illustration to tie in better.

-Add a subject for the eye to read in cover instead of abstract nothingness.

-Rework composition of main illustration (zoom in on face, more dramatic lighting - highlights eyes and anger/fear of figure)

Tests for light and size

Details in face. (Yes these are three separate drawn faces.) Highlighted in eyes - staring at viewer or hidden figure?

Revisiting the figure one final time - focus on body language - strain on hands - curling of entire body

Page layouts - what looks aesthetically pleasing - use of colour and negative space - spacing in gerenal very important
